REDEFINE AGE

"THE BEAUTY OF AGING": A Journey to a New Passion and Vision of Older Age (Jan 25, 2011)Laurie Schur

The sudden and unhappy death of her mother at age 64 filled Laurie with anxiety about aging.  "Would I follow my mother's path?"  "What did it take to live well into old age?"  "Were there women who could show me the way?"  The answer to that final question is a resounding YES! Laurie's search led her to seven extraordinary older women who were living life fully--women who despite having faced the full complement of life's challenges along the way, continue to possess incredible attitudes and resilience. They are engaged, curious, creative and wise. They are redefining old age and forging a new trail for others. They are the "stars" of her documentary The Beauty of Aging.  Laurie's film clipswill introduce us to these amazing big thinking women.
Documentary filmmaker Laurie Schur transitioned into documentary film in the last few years after a 30-year career as a psychotherapist. She created the idea for "The Beauty of Aging" out of a desire to find inspiring models of aging for herself and other women. Laurie produced anddirected a documentary short, SCAT, The Story of "Scatman" John Larkin and was Associate Producer on a narrative short, PICKLED.

"Are you at Risk? Why Tests Fail to Detect Women's hidden heart disease"

http://www.bigthinkingwomen.com/images/database/63.jpgWhat are the five major risk factors that determine the majority of heart disease risk? -- and, what can you do NOW to protect yourself?
One in three women will die of heart disease in their lifetime, and one in two women in their lifetime will develop or suffer from what we call cardiovascular disease, which includes heart disease, as well as high blood pressure.
Many of these women have a 'hidden' heart disease that standard tests won't detect -- which means they may receive a clean bill of health only to suffer a serious heart attack. Researchers have found fatty deposits in women's coronary arteries that do not show up as obvious blockages on angiograms.

Dr.C. Noel Bairey Merz joined BTW in May at our Mother's Day event to tell us why it's so hard to detect this type of heart disease. Attending members insisted we invite Dr. Merz back so they can hear her speak again and so that even more BTW'S can benefit from this critical information.
Merz is a cardiologist, the medical director of the Women's Health Program and Preventative and Rehabilitative Cardiac Center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and the scientific chair of the Women's Ischemia Syndrome Evaluation (WISE) study.

"spirituality is ageless" http://www.bigthinkingwomen.com/images/database/85.jpg Dr. Sue Rubin,Senior Pastor, Westlake Church of Religious Science
The first Tuesday evening after Thanksgiving, BTW invites you to kick up your post-stuffing heels: and redefine aging by focusing within as local celebrity Dr. Sue Rubin speaks from a metaphysical perspective.
Whatever your age, 40-70+, ask yourself, "Am I ready to become more than I ever thought I could be?"
If the answer is yes, join BTW and learn the tools, techniques and "tricks of the metaphysical trade" from Science of Mind principles.
Based on Ernest Holmes'™ teachings, Science of Mind motivates us to achieve a more fulfilling life through an affirmative process in which one states a desired outcome as if it has already happened. For example, "I have a bestseller . . . I'm sixty and have a new successful business . . . My relationships are perfect with both men and women . . ." The goal is to gain clarity in thinking that guides action to be consistent with desired outcomes.
It is a personal, positive, powerful, and present experience. Come hear the dynamic and energetic Dr. Sue Rubin, Senior Pastor of the Westlake Church of Religious Science and see how it is possible to "Change Your Thinking, Change Your Life."
Dr. Sue Rubin is known for her enormous energy, clarity in presenting Universal Principles and for her humor and enthusiasm. Come and see for yourself what it means to be, as Dr. Sue says, "Spiritually mature and eternally young."

"Become Visible or ?? Personal Branding In Today’s Marketplace"
Whether you know it or not, you are as much a brand as a box of cereal or an airline – only much more complex. Some people have unwittingly built a brand by default while others build theirs quite deliberately; nonetheless, everyone has one. Your career choices, personality traits, appearance, and reputation come together, forming an essence that people recognize, sparking positive or negative emotions. Just as in consumer branding, this emotional response can be cultivated to sell you. BTW Michele Lando, principal of Skilset Communications and internationally acclaimed speaker, led a powerful, information-packed evening about how effective branding can help you stand out, get ahead, and live your life by design. Building your own brand at any age, gives you a platform for realizing your dreams – books, businesses, love or legacy.

"So You Want to Write a Book? How to Get Published in the 21st Century"
In order to publish, a writer needs a perfectly crafted manuscript with a highly marketable idea and have an “in” with an agent who specializes in her specific category of books. A writer should also have made a mark by “developing a platform” in the area she is writing about and understand the pros and cons of options such as co-authorship, ghost writing, or self-publishing. Join us and go behind the scenes to learn the tricks of the trade from our celebrated literary panel, including veterans from three key perspectives of the journey. Monique Raphel High, author and writing coach/manager, helps authors create market-ready products, test them in reader focus groups, package their work and target specific agents. Jennifer Repo, is a West Coast agent for one of the leading literary agencies on the East Coast, Joelle Delbourgo & Associates, and is a non-fiction book editor at McGraw-Hill. Nancy Fredericks, co-author of Dancing on the Glass Ceiling, about how women can use the special qualities of their femaleness (instead of trying to become part of the Old Boys' Club) to break through the glass ceiling in the workplace.

Rikki is a successful author (Fairy Tales Do Come True: How A Driven Woman Changed Her Destiny - LA Times best seller list), attorney, legal analyst, Court TV anchor and married to Big Thinking Man, Los Angeles Police Chief William Bratton. Lawyers can help you up to a point but, in the end, you are far better off seeking their services to put your affairs in order long before a crisis develops." Rikki’s remarkable energy and persona inspired us and taught us more about this topic of great consequence and how we can act now to legally insure that our own medical wishes are carried out.

BECOME A FORCE

"HOW WILL SMITH GAINED DOMINATION(And you Can Too)"
An evening with Seena sharp Tuesday, September 21, 2010

Will Smith's movie success was not due to luck. He had a solid strategy built on reality and due diligence; in other words, competitive intelligence. Far too many entrepreneurs and executives make decisions based on experience, gut, internal information, and data. ALL of these reflect the past and may not be true today. More importantly, they do not include  changing and emerging trends. Decisions that are executed today, tomorrow or next week, need to be based on a megadose of what is current and unfolding.
Your competitive advantage is ramping up the quality of decisions and getting them right the first time. Seena Sharp's thought-provoking and pragmatic presentation will help you uncover opportunities and minimize risk, all of which will help empower you to become more successful.
Seena will share many real world examples and give you the perspective to make better decisions.

Seena Sharp founded one of the first competitive intelligence firms in the U.S. and is known for her "different" perspective on business.  At the request of John Wiley & Sons, Seena wrote "Competitive Intelligence Advantage",How To Minimize Risk, Avoid Surprises, and Grow Your
Business in a Changing World"
a book that includes 60 real-world examples and 11 scenarios for using competitive intelligence. If you would like to download a free chapter, please click on Download a free chapter.
