Past Events That Have Helped Us Craft Our Personal Legacies

“The Psychology of Women and Accumulating Wealth”
featuring Dr. Tess and the Money Mavens of BTW

Part One will be a mini-seminar by Dr. Tess on (1) the emotional circuitry that compromises the Poverty Mentality our culture teaches women to believe, (2) how to recognize the symptoms and (3) how to bridge the gap between wanting and having it all. Part Two will be an informal panel and discussion with three BTW members who make their living creating wealth for their clients.
This evening is for you and your quests who are involved with women financially, emotionally and professionally or who are simply interested in leaning more about how to think bigger about our financial mental health.
Become Visible or ??? Personal Branding In Today’s Marketplace
Whether you know it or not, you are as much a brand as a box of cereal or an airline – only much more complex. Some people have unwittingly built a brand by default while others build theirs quite deliberately; nonetheless, everyone has one. Your career choices, personality traits, appearance, and reputation come together, forming an essence that people recognize, sparking positive or negative emotions. Just as in consumer branding, this emotional response can be cultivated to sell you. BTW Michele Lando, principal of Skilset Communications and internationally acclaimed speaker, led a powerful, information-packed evening about how effective branding can help you stand out, get ahead, and live your life by design. Building your own brand at any age, gives you a platform for realizing your dreams – books, businesses, love or legacy.
So You Want to Write a Book? How to Get Published in the 21st Century
In order to publish, a writer needs a perfectly crafted manuscript with a highly marketable idea and have an “in” with an agent who specializes in her specific category of books. A writer should also have made a mark by “developing a platform” in the area she is writing about and understand the pros and cons of options such as co-authorship, ghost writing, or self-publishing. Join us and go behind the scenes to learn the tricks of the trade from our celebrated literary panel, including veterans from three key perspectives of the journey. Monique Raphel High, author and writing coach/manager, helps authors create market-ready products, test them in reader focus groups, package their work and target specific agents. Jennifer Repo, is a West Coast agent for one of the leading literary agencies on the East Coast, Joelle Delbourgo & Associates, and is a non-fiction book editor at McGraw-Hill. Nancy Fredericks, co-author of Dancing on the Glass Ceiling, about how women can use the special qualities of their femaleness (instead of trying to become part of the Old Boys' Club) to break through the glass ceiling in the workplace.
The Good, The Bad and The Living Will
BTW celebrity, Rikki Kleiman, spoke from both a legal and media point of view on the Terry Schiavo case. Rikki is a successful author (Fairy Tales Do Come True: How A Driven Woman Changed Her Destiny - LA Times best seller list), attorney, legal analyst, Court TV anchor and married to Big Thinking Man, Los Angeles Police Chief William Bratton. Rikki strongly believes "the media has delivered the message to the public loud and clear 'if you do not want a crisis in your family at the time of a death, have a living will.' Lawyers can help you up to a point but, in the end, you are far better off seeking their services to put your affairs in order long before a crisis develops." Rikki’s remarkable energy and persona inspired us and taught us more about this topic of great consequence and how we can act now to legally insure that our own medical wishes are carried out.
Mimosas With Mom
Saturday, April 30, 2005, 12:00PM
360 No. Rodeo Dr.
Beverly Hills, CA
The Mimosa is a flower that has come to symbolize the spring celebration of women, life, love, and beauty. Thanks to advancements in medicine and health care, we are the first generation of women who are lucky enough to have Moms, relatives, friends and mentors well beyond seventy to celebrate with! As spring and Mother’s Day 2005 approaches, BTW invites you to a sensational Saturday morning Mimosa brunch to recognize the beauty of our mothers in person and in spirit...and to appreciate how we have collectively re-defined aging. Restaurant critic, food writer, author and delightful speaker, Sharon Boorstin, shared her thoughts on the role that food, cooking and recipes play in our lives and traditions. Sharon is a prolific writer with a novel, Cookin’ for Love, available in bookstores and featured MORE magazine.
The Fine Art of Barn-Raining with Dr. Tessa Warschaw
The BTW Signature Event featured our founder and inspiration, Dr. Tessa Warschaw. Big Thinking Women has always known that support is more than cocktails and networking - it includes perspective, heart, and strategy. Dr. Tess discussed and demonstrated one of the most successful support processes especially tailored for BTW women. We learned important techniques to help gain perspective and objective feedback in a new way from free and accessible resources. Dr. Tess has a transformational wisdom and those who've experienced her can’t get enough!
