Be it physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual in nature, radiant health is the foundation of Big Thinking and Big Living. Keep your mind, body, and spirit "juiced up" with some of the valuable resources we've uncovered.

Cancer Infomation and Resources

The Myths and Madness of Cancer Research

Dr. Judith Gasson, Director of the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center at UCLA, helped us dispel the myths and cut through the madness to understand what we now know about diagnosis, treatment and prevention of cancer. Dr. Gasson, is the essence of a Big Thinking Woman. Her beliefs and impressive career have created a legacy of important work that has led to significant improvements in cancer treatment. She is a molecular biologist, a full professor at the UCLA School of Medicine and is responsible for one of only 41 institutions designated as comprehensive cancer centers by the National Cancer Institute. Her colleagues describe her as a respected, brilliant scientist who is inspirational and a natural leader. This is a crucial topic for women, and we invite you to make a difference by learning how Dr. Gasson and others are working to translate the latest discoveries in the laboratory to notably improve patient care.

Safety

Are You Ready For A Katrina-Sized Quake?

In the wake of Hurricane Katrina and Rita, it seems appropriate to ask if all of our ducks are really in a row for the big one in our neck of the woods. Be it an earthquake, financial, family or health emergency, are you going to be proactive and prepared, or reactive and remorseful? Pat Nagy, a Los Angeles based instructor with the American Red Cross for over 20 years, spoke about emergency disaster recovery plans in place for LA and provided us with a personal preparedness checklist and readiness kit recommendations. Find out more about this crucial topic at www.acrossla.org.

Explore Safety From the Head, Heart, and Body

Explore safety from the head with Ann Reiss Lane, from the heart with Sheri Barnett, and from the body with Peggie Reyna. In the year 2003, the Center for the Advancement for Women studied the top issues expressed by women of all ages. The #1 concern was personal safety. It is one of those issues that few of us want to address and yet it is crucial. BTW invited three amazing women to explore personal safety from the head, heart, and body. They shared startling facts about gun violence, the experience of losing a child, and a demonstration of necessary protection and preventive techniques. This is the first step in philanthropy education for BTW members. To learn more about this important topic, contact Dr. Tess!
