PHILANTHROPY
The Fine Art of Barn-Raining with Dr. Tessa Warschaw
The BTW Signature Event featured our founder and inspiration, Dr. Tessa Warschaw. Big Thinking Women has always known that support is more than cocktails and networking - it includes perspective, heart, and strategy. Dr. Tess discussed and demonstrated one of the most successful support processes especially tailored for BTW women. We learned important techniques to help gain perspective and objective feedback in a new way from free and accessible resources. Dr. Tess has a transformational wisdom and those who've experienced her can’t get enough! Email Dr. Tess.
The Three T’s of Philanthropy…Treasure, Talent and Time
BTW presented an educational evening entitled “The 3 T's of Philanthropy...Treasure, Talent, and Time." We challenged our members and guests to decide which of the 3 T's she will dedicate to the creation of a legacy. Three guest speakers inform us through their experiences in one of the three areas. Ann Daniel, co-founder of the California Womens Foundation LA Donor Circle, http://www.womensfoundca.org, spoke to us about "activating your TREASURE to philanthropy." Sylvia Fogelman, president of the So. California Foster Family and Adoption Agency (SCFFA), http://www.scffaa.org, spoke to us on "transferring your current TALENTS to philanthropic ventures" and about "using your TIME to give with the heart of a philanthropist."
BTW CARES
12th Annual Revlon Run/Walk for Women 2005
BTW celebrated over a decade of hope and progress in the fight against women's cancer for a second year in the single largest day fund raising event for women’s cancer, with over 60,000 women, men and children at the Los Angeles Coliseum. http://www.revlonrunwalk.com
POLITICS MADE PERSONAL
Politcal Perspectives with Patt Morrison
Patt Morrison, LA Times writer and columnist, National Public Radio host and author of Rio LA, Tales from the Los Angeles River, joined us for a non-partisan look at what we needed to know before the last presidential election about critical issues impacting the health and welfare of women. Patt helped us go beyond rhetoric, delving into the outcomes of our political choices on concerns like the future of health care reform, the state of our social security benefits, and stem cell research. Patt Morrison is a BTW who continues to make a difference and we are honored to have had her spend time with us for such an inspirational and unforgettable evening. http://www.pattmorrison.com
THE LIVING WILL
The Good, The Bad and The Living Will
BTW celebrity, Rikki Kleiman, spoke from both a legal and media point of view on the Terry Schiavo case. Rikki is a successful author (Fairy Tales Do Come True: How A Driven Woman Changed Her Destiny - LA Times best seller list), attorney, legal analyst, Court TV anchor and married to Big Thinking Man, Los Angeles Police Chief William Bratton. Rikki strongly believes "the media has delivered the message to the public loud and clear 'if you do not want a crisis in your family at the time of a death, have a living will.' Lawyers can help you up to a point but, in the end, you are far better off seeking their services to put your affairs in order long before a crisis develops." http://www.rikkiklieman.com
Rikki’s remarkable energy and persona inspired us and taught us more about this topic of great consequence and how we can act now to legally insure that our own medical wishes are carried out. Michel Financial Group/Mass Mutual, our generous sponsor, will be provided complimentary Health Care Directive forms for members and guests.
